The Red Tape Challenge has over the past months has made a great impact on doing away or improving current legislation and regulation and is proving to be a great way for the public and firms to have their say over nuisances and matters that get in the way of doing business effectively. Running since it’s launch during April 2011, it has already looked at numerous areas of business and now it’s the turn of Company and Commercial Law building on the Companies Act 2006, looking at areas such as the audit regime to assist small and medium sized companies as well as the approach to filing documents at Companies House.

Some of the main considerations are

-Internal workings of companies and partnerships: Rules on shares and share capital, requirement to hold information at business premises and rules on meetings and resolutions.

-Accounts and returns: The content, form and auditing requirements of financial accounts and other reports.

-Business names: The rules covering company names.

-Disclosure of company information: The regulations covering the information companies must supply to the official register.

The new 2012 startup business drive – has been launched for 2012. “There’s a business in everyone – What’s the business in you?” launched by The PM David Cameron.

2011 saw more than a 20% increase in new business startups recorded, year-on-year, and the new 2012 launch campaign is set to increase further on the 470,000 or more recorded businesses 2011.

The Olympic year of 2012 is a unique moment for Great Britain globally as is for the business community. The ‘Business In You’ is aimed as a partnership between private enterprise and Government to highlight support for start-ups and growing businesses and encourage entrepreneurial spirit in 2012.

Whether looking to test ideas, or develop financial and planning skills,the campaign is to give support and inspiration that new startups are looking for by using successful, real-life examples. Now in its 22nd year, the Brighton Half Marathon is one of the longest established and most popular seafront road race events in the UK. The Main registration is SOLD OUT and closed for the 2012 Brighton Half Marathon. There are limited Half Marathon Premier Packages left here. Internships, Work Experience and Mentoring

New Coalition Government initiative has more than 100 major UK businesses signed up to a new initiative featuring internships, work experience, mentoring and ‘blank’ cv’s - all coming under the spotlight of the compact.

The compact proposes asking for CVs without the name or the school details of candidates in order to remove the risk of discrimination during the application process. Firms pleding include Tesco, barclays and Coco Cola which requires them to recruit “fairly and without discrimination” by using application forms that don’t allow candidates to be screened out due to the school they went to or their ethnicity.

Olympic Venues Signed Up Under Legacy

The cabinet’s first meeting of the year will be spent at The London Olympics site, to mark 200 days until the start of the Games as three more venues have secured future operators under The Legacy - the Aquatics Centre, handball arena and observation tower. The future operators of six venues have now been secured and organisers say they are confident for signing up the remaining two, the stadium and the media centre, ahead of the opening ceremony.

Jeremy Hunt, Culture Minister states

“… an area of London which had been used as the city’s “dumping ground” had been completely transformed by the Games project.

“That just wouldn’t have happened if we hadn’t been hosting the Olympics…”

”…To have got to the situation where six of the eight major facilities now have a proper legacy use is a big milestone and we want to get the other two sorted as well…”

The Olympics will run from 27 July to 12 August and the Paralympics from 29 August to 9 September.
