Student days at The Brighton & Hove Business Show 2012

The Brighton & Hove Business Show, always pleased to welcome students to event days, saw a number of students this Autumn benefit from gaining work experience as well as visiting, who attend local colleges including Brighton & Hove and Lewes. Students meet hundreds of businesses, and gain a valuable insight into working in their chosen career choices.

You don’t have to be a large firm to take on an apprentice.

New measures to ensure more young people benefit from an apprenticeship, and to help employers gain the skilled workers they need to grow their businesses in future years for Brighton & Hove, Sussex Businesses.

The Government have announced new measures to encourage thousands of small firms that don’t currently hire apprentices to take on a young apprentice aged 16 to 24, the Government will offer employers with up to 50 employees an incentive payment of up to £1,500. This will support up to 20,000 new apprenticeships in 2012/13.

Processes will be simplified to make it quicker and easier for employers to take on an apprentice.

Brighton & Hove Businesses part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week 2011

Global Entrepreneurship Week runs from 14th-20th November 2011. In the UK it is hosted by Youth Business International and RBS Group is the official sponsor.

There’s 1800 events or so this week as Britain’s contribution to Global Entrepreneurship Week.

A planned 40,000 events across 104 countries involving some ten million would-be entrepreneurs.

This follows on from last weeks announcements of a series of measures to help Britain’s small and medium enterprises, including investment through the Regional Growth Fund, support for exporters and the new Finance Fitness campaign.

Other events taking during Global Entrepreneurship Week include:

• The National Consortium of University Entrepreneurs hosting an event to support the creation of student enterprise societies.

• Mark Prisk and Baroness Wilcox at the British Library on Wednesday 16 November to support business mentoring, with a focus on promoting mentoring for women. The new, easy to understand, mentoring web portal www.mentorsme.co.uk  provides a single point of access for those seeking mentoring and those seeking to be mentors, throughout the UK.

• The Royal British Legion hosting an event on Thursday 17 November 2011 to support the Be the Boss scheme for ex-service personnel. The initiative offers business start-up training, grants and loans up to £30,000 as well as mentoring. Funded by BIS and delivered by the Royal British Legion (RBL), the scheme has attracted over 1,000 registrations
